Our garden is going great guns. Some things we are harvesting daily and eating up, others we are still waiting on. The waiting is easier because we are busy eating up the tasty things we’ve harvested.
On the waiting end of the garden-
Watermelon, we have 3 growing. The kids check them everyday hoping that they will be ready.
Tomatoes. We’ve had a few red ones but there are a whole lot of green ones waiting for the sunshine to ripen up. I fear that they are shaded by the rest of the garden and might not be getting enough sun. We’ll have to re-evaluate next year.
There are 2 little pears on my Clapp’s Favourite pear tree. There were 3 but someone drove the remote control helicopter into one. Humph.
I’ve never grown butternut squash before and I am thrilled with how it’s doing. It’s taking over the whole yard but I don’t care. We have many squashes growing. This is the biggest and the prettiest, it’s visible from the road in front of our house and it gets a lot of attention. I’m very excited to taste it.
I’ve never grown broad beans before either. I’m reserving my judgement until I taste them because they take up a lot of space.
In the harvesting and good eating part of the garden, there’s Rainbow Light Swiss Chard. We enjoyed it sautéed in butter with a balsamic reduction. I might have it again today.
Our green beans have been doing really well. Too well really, I don’t like green beans much and I’m not sure why I planted them.
Best potatoes ever! These are Cherokee Purple and they were out of this world delicious.
Long ago I was a beet lover. Then I kind of went off them but I planted them in my garden anyway because I like the greens in a salad. Turns out I only love good beets. These are Burpees Gold and Chiogga beets, both heirloom varieties. So very tasty, served them with a little salt.
