Learn to Crochet. Also Called Old Dogs, New Tricks.

Last week I learned to crochet, for the first time ever. This was a full circle moment for me. I taught my friend Mandi (and Heather, who you’ll hear in the background) to knit many years ago. So it was fitting that Mandi taught me how to crochet.

And now we are going to teach you. Or rather Mandi is going to teach you, I mostly show you what not to do. Don’t do as I do people, do as Mandi does.

Warning: I say “Sheesh” and “Drat” a lot. A LOT.

Thus proving that when it comes to homemade an old dog can indeed learn new tricks.

Follow Mandi on Twitter @crazycatsx2 and upload your learn to crochet pictures to Homemade Frontier on Flickr. We want to see them.

  1. I could listen to Mandi all day — so calm and encouraging.

  2. Jessica Anne says:

Yay yay yay! I need this. I was getting very confused on the other video I was trying to use. This is much more clear. Ok, off to make a pot holder, like I’m 8, but whatever.

  3. Nice! I want to crochet, did it years ago, but didn’t remember the details. So I watched the video’s and know what to do now. Thanks!

I had to laugh at Kristin (in a nice way, of course) for forgetting which way the yarn had to go. Seems she picked it up soon enough!

  4. Carol Anne says:

I just crocheted! Feeling really accomplished! Will upload to flickr once my pot holder is complete!

I used a variegated yarn and I think it did help!

  5. Great videos ladies…my crochet needles are ready to wiggle!

  6. I need this. I have a mental block when it comes to crocheting flat pieces. Let’s hope you can help me, Mandi.
